Rally flair with Claire – sideways experience for Julia Klöckner
Adrenaline instead of official business: The President of the German Bundestag, Julia Klöckner, got a taste of rally air as a co-driver for a special stage.
At the end of November 2025, Claire Schönborn and co-driver Michael Wenzel wrote another impressive chapter in their rally history: the Spa Rally demanded everything – extremely slippery tarmac, tough competition and challenging conditions. But Claire mastered it in style: in the Opel Corsa Rally6, she fought her way through every single stage and ultimately secured a strong 34th place overall (2:11:33.3) – just fractions of a second behind established drivers and therefore well ahead in her category!
Precision meets speed
The shakedown already showed that every nuance would count on this slippery surface. Claire made intensive use of the opportunity to familiarize herself with the car and perfect her line choice. The previous analysis of her final WRC run with Taylor Gill paid off: In more than half of the track, Claire drove as fast or even faster than the runner-up world champion – proof of her exceptional driving talent! The analysis also revealed valuable potential: there was still time to be gained in some corners by optimizing her momentum – a clear goal for the coming season.
The perfect learning platform
An absolute highlight: the Opel Corsa Rally6, provided by Opel Motorsport and Horst Rotter’s team. This near-series Rally6 proved to be the ideal tool for further development. Rally greats such as Teemu Suninen and Manfred Stohl agree: a vehicle like this without four-wheel drive or differential lock is worth its weight in gold when it comes to driving precise lines and picking up maximum speed out of the bends. Claire proved exactly that – especially on the final day, when she set one best time after another and worked her way up the field in her class.
Fighter’s heart beats setbacks
The Spa Rally 2025 became a showcase for Claire’s impressive development. Despite a puncture on the first day, which cost her valuable minutes, she refused to be deterred. With a consistently strong performance, numerous top times on the second day and ironclad concentration on the treacherous tarmac stages, Claire made a powerful statement.
She is now motivated to look ahead: with the knowledge she has gained and her self-confidence boosted, Claire is ready for new challenges.
