What the international press says
“Exclamation mark at the end” – that’s what the trade journalists write.
Adrenaline instead of official business: the President of the German Bundestag, Julia Klöckner, got a taste of rally air as a co-driver for a special stage. Chauffeur: Claire Schönborn. And this was important to both of them: at the Hunsrück Rally, Julia Klöckner and Claire Schönborn took the opportunity to live out their attachment to their homeland.
“The Hunsrück Junior Rally stands for passion, precision and the courage of young talent – all embedded in our beautiful region,” said Klöckner ahead of the drive. “I am delighted to be part of this special event and to get to know Claire Schönborn, a very promising young driver.” After her drive in the rally car, Klöckner was delighted: “Claire is a true professional and absolutely relaxed – and I think that the two of us complemented each other well in the route notes. This rally is superbly organized and was a lot of fun,” said the long-serving member of the German Bundestag. And Julia Klöckner also left an impression: “I have to say: Ms Klöckner was really good with the notes – great timing, well read out!” Claire said approvingly.
Julia Klöckner has been President of the German Bundestag since this year and has been politically active for many years, including as Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. The 52-year-old comes from Rhineland-Palatinate and has a degree in theology and political science. In her role as President of the Bundestag, she represents Parliament to the outside world, chairs the plenary sessions and ensures that parliamentary order is observed. Her office is the second highest state office in Germany.
The Hunsrück Rally was Claire Schönborn’s first appearance at her home event. This time she drove a Toyota GR Yaris as the lead car, optimally equipped with a safety cage, racing seats, rally chassis and all-wheel drive as standard. In addition to Julia Klöckner, the reigning Edelstein Queen Vivian Heidrich and journalists also had the opportunity to experience rally action up close alongside the 25-year-old Schönborn.
