More experience, more calm and more dedication: Claire Schönborn has a new co-driver in Michael Wenzel. And the bonus round: he has already competed in the upcoming challenges in the Junior World Championship – with the World Rally Championship classics in Greece and Finland as well as the season finale at the Central Europe Rally. An important support.
Michael Wenzel works professionally as a design engineer and is a passionate sportsman with hobbies such as cycling, cross-country skiing and running. He has been active in rallying since 1992 and can look back on an impressive career as a co-driver – including successes such as winning the German Super 1600 Championship in 2004 and 2005 and 1st place in the ADAC Opel Rallye Cup in 2013. He has competed in numerous national and international championships, including WRC, PWRC, JWRC, ERC, JERC and DRM, and has worked with drivers such as Uwe Nittel, Niki Schelle, Christian Riedemann, Christoph Schleimer, Albert von Thurn und Taxis, Timo Schulz and Hermann Gassner jr.
The joint starts with Claire Schönborn add an important and promising project for Wenzel: as “man at Claire’s side” in the official WRC Young Driver Team in the Junior World Championship (JWRC).
“I’m delighted that Michael will be supporting me in the future with all his experience,” says Claire. “I will learn a lot from him – not only at the two upcoming World Championship classics in Greece and Finland, but also during the preparation and testing for them. There’s no question that I’m looking forward to working with a veteran like Michael.”
